Summary: Get a realistic picture of "Nanking Massacre".
Comment: It is absolutly essential that you have solid ground with historical facts if you want to argue for/against a greatly controversial historical topic like this so-called "Nanking Massacre".
This book provides readers powerful and secure basis of logic and shows how much the "Nanking Massacre" story has been told on the basis of irrational, sloppy and sometimes very emotional arguments which have never been substantiated and have been distorted by political ideologies.
It was the Tokyo Trial that made people in the world including the Japanese themselves believe that the Japanese Imperial Army was so evil they committed barbaric atrocities such as the "Nanking Massacre", "Bataan Death March", etc.etc.... (Well, as for "Bataan", it is true that the Allied soldiers walked hundreds of miles with little food and sicknesses, but the Japanese soldiers walked the same distance with 40 kilogram burdens and little food and sickness, as well. Almost 80% of the Japanese soldiers in the South East Asia died of starvation and disease, by the way.)
Anyway, given the fact that the war time history of modern Japan from 1931 to 1945 was, in fact, made by the trial, and they have been inculcated as "facts" by educating people with the history books that based on the verdicts of the trial for a half century, you have to demonstrate that the every verdict of the Tokyo Trial was never substantiated before you convince people that the "Nanking Massacre" story is highly questionable, at least to say.
Whole problem lies here. You have to refute the every verdict of the trial one by one. Otherwise, people would say that even the "Nanking Massacre" was proved to be a false accusation, yet the Japanese Army did this and that, so the war criminals are still guilty, and so are the Japanese "revisionists". Evidently, because the refutation of the "Nanking Massacre" has been successful in Japan, the left-wingers in Japan are sifting their points of argument to "Burn all, Rape all, Kill all policy" of the Japanese Army which had already been debunked by many researchers. (It was, in fact, policy of the Chinese Army, not Japanese.)
So, it seems long, long way ahead for Japan to clear her name. But, as they say, you have to make the first step if you want to climb a mountain. And, I think, this book made one secure step towards the truth of the history with pride.
Must read if you really want to know the truth. As for the first step, at the least.

I didn't know "The Protocals of Elder Zion" is credible. Also, I didn't know the title of this book is "What Really Happened In Nanking".
Really incredible is Chinese tactics :
Chiang Kai-Shek ordered Tang Sheng-zhi, the commander-in-chief of the Nanking Garrison, to reinforce the wall and destroy citizen's properties outside the wall as the Chinese traditional tactics of the 'Scorched-earth policy', not letting the Japanese Army take advantage of them.
Tillman Durdin described this scene in the December 12 edition of the New York Times :
The burning of obstructions within the defense zone by the Chinese continued. Palatial homes of Chinese officials in Mausoleum Park district were among the places burned late yesterday.
The city was ringed by a dense pall of smoke, for the Chinese also continued to burn buildings and obstructions yesterday in towns in a ten-mile radius.
This correspondent, motoring to the front, found the entire valley outside Chungshan Gate, southeast of Mausoleum Park, ablaze. The village of Hsiaolingwei, along the main highway bordering the park, was a mass of smoking ruins, and inhabitants who had not evacuated days before were streaming toward Nanking carrying their few miserable belongings and occasionally pausing to take sorrowing looks at their former homes.
