Summary: My Favorite Bible... is rendered in LEGO!
Comment: Regardless of your religious beliefs, it's hard to deny that the bible is one of the most important books ever written. Its influence on modern life in America, and much of the world, is hard to overstate. Still, most people have not read much if any of the bible, regardless of their religious beliefs.
This book is the most fun and readable bible book I've come across.
I like that it's composed of verbatim bible verses, rather than narrative retelling. Many books that aim at making the bible casually readable do so by playing with the content. That is not done here. Certain verses and chapters are omitted to move things along, but the content you read is the purported word of God.
The book maintains its readability by virtue of its beautifully realized images. The artwork is whimsical yet effecting. Watching these classic stories unfold visually is great fun. I would say that the bible is "brought to life" moreso here than in many other forms. In fact many of these images have become the images that I see when visualizing biblical tales!
Only ten stories from Genesis are covered, but the book is substantial since each verse is on a page of its own accompanied by a beautiful full sized, full color illustration. It's a quick read, but I find myself showing it to friends and flipping through it again and again. I'll be leaving this on the coffee table for quite a while :)
Whether you are a fundamentalist or an atheist (like myself) this is a great, fun little book.

Summary: Ingenius...
Comment: There are few things, and few people I consider creative Genius'
Rev. Brendan Powell Smith is one of them. I was first introduced to his Brick Testament several years ago on his website. I found myself smiling to the depths of my soul.
I was overjoyed to hear that such would finally be in print. The book is wonderful, cute, intelligent...and endeavors to be Biblically accurate. Excellent for children, new christians, old christians, atheists, heck...this book is so cool even a Satanist could get away with having this version of the Bible on his living room coffee table.
And at only $10 and change...what a deal!
Perhaps my one complaint, and a minor one at that, is I loved and laughed so hard when I read these on the original website where they were marked with view ratings: V=Violence, N=Nudity, etc. I definitely can't wait for the next book in the Brick Testament series..."Stories from the Book of Exodus"
=)

Summary: Some controversial stories from Genesis looking pretty cute
Comment: I've looked through most of Brendan Powell Smith's Bible stories on his website and basically they involve some impressive Lego scenes which tell some well known Bible stories though it mainly concentrates on controversial passages in the Bible.
The author interprets the Bible passages in a straight-forward way, so for example, a snake is seen as the tempter in Genesis, rather than Satan.
Since many of the controversial things in the Bible involve things like rape, massacres, executions, etc, these are shown in many of his stories, so it probably isn't suitable for young children.
Perhaps it isn't fair for the author to mainly focus on stories about God and his people that seem immoral.... but perhaps people assume too much that the good guys never did anything controversial in the Bible, and they were always clearly doing the right thing. Maybe God's behaviour and rules could be seen as fair anyway if you think about it a bit. So this book could be seen as being thought-provoking.
