Summary: Voice of Jensen
Comment: Before I review this CD set, allow me to talk a bit about the author. Derrick Jensen is the critically acclaimed author of a number of books: including Strangely Like War; Walking on Water; The Culture of Make Believe; A Language Older than Words; Listening to the Land: Conversations about Nature, Culture, and Eros; and co-author of Railroads and Clearcuts. Among environmentalists and social critics, there are none more vocal and unabashedly critical of global industrial society and its impact upon the biosphere AND our own psyches. If you are not already familiar with his work, I suggest you get started today; for there is perhaps no one with a more articulate, informed and passionate perspective on Life. I recommend starting with A Language Older Than Words.
This CD compelation is perfect for those have not yet had the pleasure of hearing Jensen speak in person. Quite different than his printed voice, Jensen's talks are a disturbing mixture of revelation and sardonic humor -- a twisted kind of humor that makes you want to laugh and cry all at once. The 3rd CD contains some of the most stirring, powerful speech I have ever heard.
Altogether, the perfect way to ingest some Jensen.

Summary: Collection of Emotions
Comment: Derrick does a wonderfull job bringing together attrocities and humor. One moment truth hits you hard making you feel hopeless, and a moment later your laughing. He does an excellent job exposing western civilization for what it really is, what it stands for and where its going. Derrick is not only a great and thought provoking writter, but a wonderful speaker as well. He talks about ecological issues in a way that makes you think. While provoking you to do something about them.
If you want to feel mad, sad, happy, hopeless and hopefull, I highly recomend The Other Side of Darkness.

Summary: Humor and Hope
Comment: This CD is such a contrast to his books. When reading Jensen, someone can almost get the feeling that he takes life with the utmost seriousness, with very little optimism. If you ever have felt that way when reading his books then this CD is a must to listen to. This is the part of Jensen that many people can not fathom. It is a very humorous collection of talks that he gives. It lightens the heart and gives hope. I have heard people say that his work is depressing...if only they would listen to this CD, it is most obviously not. In my opinion, no Jensen book is complete without this CD. Thank you Derrick. This world needs you.
