Summary: Soft Case delivers a great read.
Comment: Soft Case is full of surprises.
Soft Case has a very realistic feel. It captures the essence of a New York City police detective and the case he investigates with excellent characterization and a strong plot. The story is believable and compelling. I am looking forward to receiving the next book by this author, Time Stand Still.
Rating: 5
Summary: Couldn't let such a good book be blasted
Comment: Someone here wrote a review about this book, and I just wanted to say I disagree. Soft Case, though not the best book ever written, is highly entertaining and kept me interested from the first to the last page. I thought the premise was fresh, and the dialogue was real. The characters are involved in realistic situations and act like human beings. Nothing about this book is far-fetched, and it reeks of someone who has a knowledge about people.
One thing I have to say is that, though it is serious and tackles some issues, the book is funny. I really laughed at times. John Misak has a nice sense of humor.
I guess it is all a matter of opinion, but if you like stories from this genre, I think you'll find Soft Case to be an entertaining read by a talented author.
Sounds to me like the person who said something bad about it is unpublished, and angry about it.
Rating: 5
Summary: An Engaging Debut Novel
Comment: I really enjoyed this book. From the characterization to the dry humor, Soft Case kept me turning pages, which is what I expect from a mystery novel.
One thing that stands out about this book is how the ending totally took me by surprise. This is important to a book like this, and the author pulls it off without being obvious about trying to deceive the reader.
Buy this book if you like good, page-turning mysteries. This is an absolute must have for those who like a dose of humor thrown in.
