Summary: The Federalist Papers
Comment: This text is essential for any student trying to grasp the debate surrounding the Constitution. Though trudging through the original documents is advisable, the side-by-side modern version makes comprehending the often difficult language used headache-free and therefore the concepts clear and easy to grasp. For those of you familiar with Shakespeare texts featuring side-by-side modern translations, the format is very much similar, although in my experience the translations here are far more accurate. The guide questions at the end of each chapter are well-thought out and highlight the important issues of each essay. It's interesting to see that the same debate regarding federalism is alive and well today.
If you're a college student majoring in political-science, a high school student in a government class, a teacher or professor, or just somebody trying to gain new insight into the formation of our government, you cannot go wrong with this text. I applaud Genevieve Gilbert-Rolfe for undertaking the daunting task of translating, and especially for succeeding at it.
