Summary: A powerful and moving novel that takes on the church
Comment: Carrie is not sure she could do what she must do without the emotional support of her spouse Paul. Married for ten years, Carrie feels that the hardest thing she ever faced in life was telling her beloved husband what happened to her when she was seventeen. Now that other women have made the allegation and with Paul's encouragement, she plans to tell the same thing in court, but wonders how Paul will react when she goes public.
Two decades ago, Carrie was a happy but naïve teen hero-worshiping the minister of her church, Mark Simions. However, Carrie and several other women insist Mark, taking advantage of his position, sexually abused them. In spite of the church's rejection of any wrong doings by one of their leaders, Mark faces a trial that may not quite match the tribulations confronted by the women he abused.
FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES is a well-written story centering on clergy abuse of their patrons. The story line is exciting because the characters, victims and culprit, seem real, as if they are neighbors in a nearby congregation. Although Mark's "smooth" persona takes an unbelievable twist that loses a bit of the tale's angst, readers will find Christine Rose Cambridge's debut tale packs quite a social wallop, as it pulls no punches.

Summary: Compelling First Novel
Comment: Christine Rose Cambridge has written a small, yet very powerful novel about the abuse of position and betrayal of trust in her first book, Forgive Us Our Trespasses. Carrie, at seventeen, confused, lonely and sad over the divorce of her parents is sent to her minister, Reverend Mark Simon for counselling. But Mark uses his position and influence to have a sexual affair with the teenager. Now, over twenty years later, married and the mother of two, Carrie has come forward to tell her story and testify against this man. For although she has outwardly gone on with her life, a dark cloud has hung over her these many years and she has come to realize she will never be "happy" without closure. This is a very thoughtful, well written, riveting novel and the depth of Ms Cambridge's knowledge about this topic, adds real credibility to the story. Her characters are artfully drawn and developed and very believable. It is just that fact, that Carrie could be any woman, you, your sister or neighbor, that makes this story so compelling. Forgive Us Our Trespasses is a little gem of a book, told with great insight and wisdom.
