Title: Past Fear and Doubt to Amazing Abundance: Secret Knowledge That Brought Me Self-Actualization by Stephen Hawley Martin, Stephen Hawley Martin ISBN: 1-892538-24-5 Publisher: The Oaklea Press Pub. Date: January, 2000 Format: Paperback Volumes: 1 List Price(USD): $14.95 |

Summary: Don't let the title mislead you
Comment: I was so excited about getting this book. I loved the title, thought the cover painting was inspiring, and really looked forward to reading it.
In the first few pages, Martin reveals he conned you. The book has far more religious-sounding and biblical quotes than people normally into such subjects will tolerate.
If you can get past that, you'll discover some good bits and pieces, but they are scattered throughout. Just when you think he's onto something, he pulls a quote out of a hat, and you're left wondering where is the continuity.
I don't like giving bad reviews. I sincerely read this book with an open heart and an open mind, but found myself getting increasingly irritated with the author. He says he is an evolved 'Stage Four' person, above the 'Stage Three' religious, Christians - yet he is constantly quoting typically Christian material. I don't trust him. He writes like he's very clear about things, but the whole book is like paragraphs he wrote here and there, compiled together, and slapped them in a book, without much further thought.
I have to agree with a previous reviewer, this man needed a good editor! If you are the type of person to notice typos and grammatical errors, this book will drive you mad!
I felt I had to warn potential readers of this book. I was quite disappointed and do not recommend it.

Summary: A good read, good advice and a lot to think about
Comment: The author recounts his journey from doubting Thomas to believer in an energy or force not yet acknowledged by science, the opposite of entropy that fosters growth and evolution.
This energy, according to Martin, is imbued with a raw, organizing intelligence that when harnessed by your higher mind will swing into action to arrange reality so that life falls effortlessly into place for you. His goal is to help open a direct channel to your subconscious mind and to begin the process of a merger between it and your conscious mind. A mental shift will accompany this that will cause you to view life in a new light. Ultimately, your unique purpose will be revealed, enabling you to realize your full potential, and thus attract the joy, fulfillment, and abundance that Martin claims is your destiny and birthright.
Martin opens readers' eyes to a new world view while he points out keys to longevity and excellent health, which are right under our noses to all but a very few. A good read, good advice and a lot to think about.

Summary: Good ideas but scattered, sloppy writing.
Comment: Mr Martin has good intentions, and reading his words indicates he's sincerely trying to say something in this book.
Unfortunately he's also in desperate need of a good editor, not to mention proofreader.
