Summary: Earlier Version OK New Versions STINK!
Comment: What began as a great idea for a great series but it has now failed. Author Gardner decided to dump the original publisher and editors and go off on her own--BIG mistake. Although she kept the editors 4 step ideas she misses the mark in many other areas. The writing is horrible. If you can find the original 1997 books grab them. Don't bother with the newer versions- they are full of typos and advertisements to buy more products only available at the Gardner's site. What began as a Bible focused study obviously turned into a money making scheme.

Summary: Series came and went and is already outdated and ineffective
Comment: Considering the author and editor wanted you to spend $...on the study guide alone you would have thought that the book would stay reasonably up-to-date for a longer period. Not so. Many of the resources required to do much of the suggested assignments and activities in the study guide were expensive and only available from the author's personal website. Many are no longer available at all or are next to impossible to find except on used book lists where people can't get rid of them fast enough. What started out as a great concept quickly fizzled in the author's and editor's hands.

Summary: A wonderful program !
Comment: I have used other unit studies and have loved them, but this one is truly unique. While academically challening, it manages to excite and engage the children in learning history. There is an excellent balance between discussion, reading and projects. I especially like that this unit study takes into account a variety of learning styles and uses great books in place of texts. I highly recommend it, particularly for those homeschool families with children in grades 3 - 6, though this program *can* be adapted for older or younger children.
