Comment: This is a good set of wargaming rules for Victorian Science Fiction: Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Rider Haggard, Conan Doyle, etc. Players with "The Sword and the Flame" or "Space 1889" armies looking for a weird change of pace should check these out. The basic games mechanisms are your standard 1:1 skirmish game rules, with special abilities and saves for Heroic Characters. Where the rules really shine is how they integrate the Science Fiction elements. You come up with a concept, machine, infernal device, dinosaur, what-not, and then roll dice to randomize its effectiveness. You need to roll dice to start things up, and then to keep them going ("sustain" rolls). This prevents super-powerful infernal devices from ruling the game. Inspired by a game my son and I played at a convention, I have sought out old Burger King Wild Wild West Giant mechanical spider toys, Pinnacle's Weird West Civil War Soldiers with rocket packs, Disney Atlantis Toys, etc. The interesting part is that any weapons you can invision Victorians having (and that includes Burrough's John Carter of Mars) can be made, but they will have limitations. Bring on those Lost Valley T-rexes and pterodactyls. This game is FUN!
