Summary: A good look at the real Old West
Comment: Even though it is fiction, Shinin Times does a good job of conveying the life of a Fur Trade era trapper. Though some times he seems more green than a willow shoot, Jack seems to make through things fairly well.
I found the book an easy read if sometimes things seemed to go round and round. Compared to other fictional offerings, ST does hold its own. It also holds up better than those books written by folks who have never lived out West and merely passed their manuscript over a picture book of the Rockies to give it the 'scent', so to speak.
I will welcome the chance to read the sequel when it appears. I think old Jack has a thing going with his tales.

Summary: WAUGH!!!!
Comment: This hear book sure do shine!!! Best fiction on the fur trade I ever did see!! Some of the stories do stretch the truth a bit but, ain't that what it's about.... Jack Stone knows poor bull from fat cow or this child's a pilgrim.... Throw in a plew or two and buy yerself a copy!! You sure won't be disapointed!!!
