Summary: An invaluable (and humourous) guide
Comment: I spent three years in The Netherlands and The Undutchables was given to me as an introduction to the culture. What a valuable book it is too! You learn, for a start that the Dutch are like the Scottish with the generosity beaten out of them. In fact, it's not strictly true, but they certainly are 'careful' with their money. Then you learn the secret art of bicycle stealing (it's a national pastime over there). After that, the joys of trying to climb the world's steepest stairs and squeeze into the world's smallest lavatories. Talk about a culture shock!

But The Undutchables is also a mine of useful information. Did you know that the Dutch for 'penniless' is 'krap'? Or that 'fat' is 'dik'? And that, if you go to a bar and ask for a 'prik', you'll get a tonic water? Told you it was useful!

This is a great guide, and a great way to get to know the Dutch culture. My years in The Hague were happy years and I grew to love and admire these hardy people. Get yourself a copy of The Undutchables and see what I mean.

Summary: Highly accurate and a bit tongue in cheek
Comment: Having lived in seven other countries prior to living in The Netherlands, I find the book a remarkably accurate guide to developing a better understanding of the Dutch culture.

Particularly valuable in that the authors are frank and honest in explaining the difference in how different the Dutch treat tourists or business visitors - in comparison to how the Dutch will treat legal foreigners moving there. Honest, witty, a bit tongue in cheek at times, but certainly accurate from a foreigners perspective.

Very valuable in providing valuable information regarding business and social etiquette, and observable Dutch cultural perspectives. The book could only be improved if the authors were less tonque in cheek and more forthright, but the book would certainly lose some of it's charm in the process. A quick and humorous read, well worth twice the price... I lent my copy to a Dutchman who was moving home after twenty years abroad- and he couldn't agree more with the authors's observations.

Highly recommended to the casual tourist and particularly to those moving to The Netherlands on business. Don't move there without it!

Summary: Laughable for those who have lived in the Netherlands
Comment: I studied for more than 10 months in the Netherlands, and I fet annoyed until I read this book. While amazingly funny, it is also accurate, though in some small parts, the authors seem to exaggerate a little bit, but in general, you can laugh to death. The authors peek down every bits of the dutch life, such as language, transportation, the attitude toward others, the shops, upraising the children, and so on and so on. For people who just come across the Dutch, this is a very guide book to be sure that you won't feel insulted, because that's just the way they are...!
