Summary: No Work Involved, No Heavy Reading, Just Simple Truth
Comment: What I appreciate most about this clearly written, concise book is its simplicity. The authors exude simplicity in their style, their words, and their illustrations. In the course of reading, I came to realize how tired I was of trying to follow the "10 steps to this" or the "9 ways to do that". I have read dozens of books on the subjects of self-help, awareness and enlightenment. Many of those books were densely packed, repetitive volumes that felt like textbooks and left no lasting impression on me. The first thing that struck me when I started reading "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" was how it was so open, light and easy to read. It did not hype anything or shove a philosophy down my throat. The book felt like it was purposely designed for absorption and understanding, not to fill a quota for minimum number of pages or to justify an exorbitant price tag. If you are presenting profound truths such as how to really listen to people and how to live in each moment, as the authors are doing, why muddle your message with complicated, long-winded, unnecessary explanations? It makes sense they would design this wonderful book in such a way that you feel as if you have ample time to do exactly what they teach: "be in the moment" through every page. When they express an idea, they continue to another pearl of wisdom and the result is an uncluttered, peaceful journey. Most of what I found in this book was new material I had never been exposed to and it has affected my life in profound ways. How I relate to money, relationships and wanting to change myself have shifted dramatically because they present a realistic approach that applies to situations I encounter every day. As I read, I occasionally noticed that some of what is expressed sounded similar to other teachers and texts about enlightenment. There are some good books on the market and some powerful teachers, but none that I have found match the way I discovered myself through the concepts they presented. My experience was that this book spoke to me like no other because the Kanes do not repackage the ideas of others and claim them as their own. They have a wholly unique, new perspective on how to find satisfaction in life that can only come from their experience. If you are looking to seriously work on yourself, if you need a complicated, rational explanation for every principle presented to you, if you need exercises at the end of every chapter, if you need to believe you are "broken" and should be "fixed" (something the authors aptly demonstrate is simply untrue) , then "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work" is not the book for you. If, however, you would like a fresh perspective on how to achieve satisfaction, if you would like to discover the truth of your life, if you would like the "easy" way to fulfillment without psychological analysis, you will thoroughly enjoy this book and the way it makes you feel. Personally, I had to give up justifying all the years and money I spent searching and admit that the simple solution was under my nose the whole time. I had to absorb what Ariel and Shya Kane had to say without defending myself and my previous actions. What I never understood was that I was manipulating myself to reach false ideals, to get things I never really wanted. Achieving these goals never made me feel complete - there was always something missing. My search is what brought me to their teachings and you are probably on the same journey since you reached this page and this review. When I could listen to their discoveries non-judgmentally, I felt like I was fine exactly the way I was and I found a new, lighter, more fun approach to life based on who I am in each new moment of now. I strongly recommend this book if you are ready to end your search and start living your life directly.

Summary: The keys to an amazing life are in this book
Comment: I have given out 11 copies of this book to friends of mine and I am purchasing more. Having read many books about self-improvement and spirituality, all I can say is that this is the only one I've ever read whose ideas work for me in the real world. What they teach is how easy and satisfying life can be if you just let it by bringing awareness to who you are and how you operate in your life. There is no planning, no visualization, no hard work and best of all, no trying to change yourself involved. Although I have seen similar ideas and approaches, I have never come across anyone with the same understanding, eloquence and compassion as Ariel and Shya Kane. What they have discovered and what they teach is truly life-changing, but the way they approach their explanation of what they know makes it easy to absorb. In this book I found trusted friends who didn't have to hype what they describe and who didn't come across as all-knowing gurus. They simply describe an approach to life that is so simple and so intuitively truthful that it is hard to believe. This is the book I would take with me if I was on a desert island and I will be reading it for many years to come not only for its insight, but also for its beauty. Thank you Ariel & Shya for putting so much of yourselves into this amazing book.
