Comment: One Shots - Five Stand Alone Scenarios for the Unknown Armies role-playing game.
Authors - Tim Dedopulos, Geoffrey C. Grabowski, Nicole Lindroos, Greg Stolze, and John Tynes
Note - Stolze and Tynes are the creators of Unknown Armies.
One Shots is a set of 5 stand - alone adventures for the Unknown Armies role playing game. The purpose of these scenarios is to give the Gamemaster and players some quick-and-dirty UA adventures. Everything is here that the Gamemaster needs to quickly get his players going in the gritty world of the occult underground. The scenarios each come with pregenerated characters so the players can jump right into the game.
The five scenarios are "Jailbreak", "Strange Days", "Fly to Heaven", "Joy and Sorrow", and "And I Feel Fine." Between the five there is a positive mix of action, combat oriented adventures and those that offer a more introspective role - playing experience. The mechanics of Unknown Armies are deliberately designed to cut down on dice rolling and make role - playing a more cinematic experience. The scenarios that make up One Shots nicely follow the original intent of UA.
As a potential UA Gamemaster I appreciate the the thought that went into putting together One Shots. I don't have as much time as I once did for designing scenarios. Our group wants to get on with the game when we're together. One Shots facilitates the whole process of getting the game together and getting it started.
I should say that although designed as stand-alones, these scenarios could easily be worked into an ongoing campaign. They are that flexible. They would make an excellent break from the main campaign, or could easily be slipped in as a sub-plot.
Unknown Armies is an excellent game, and One Shots makes it easy to "jump right in." If you own the Uknown Armies main sourcebook, get One Shots. If you don't own the main sourcebook, get it and One Shots, and go explore the weirdness that is the occult underground.
