Summary: The Spiritual Teachings of 'Abdu'l-Bahá
Comment: Son of Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Bahá'í Faith, 'Abdu'l-Bahá (1844-1921) was hailed by the Western press and by leading thinkers as the preeminent representative of liberal religious thought and progressive social action. Whilst promoting the Baha'i Faith on a visit to North America in 1912, he preached a healing message of religious renewal and universal peace and was a true spiritual leader. His teachings remain an example of a true master and the clarity of his life and teachings continue, more than ever, to speak to mankind's needs and concerns today.
His father, Bahá'u'lláh, claimed to be the long-awaited teacher that many religious traditions were expecting, bringing a message of religious tolerance - seeking to find points of harmony between the religions - and calling for an end to all forms of religious exclusivity and prejudice. The ethical and spiritual teachings of Bahá'u'lláh and 'Abdu'l-Bahá are centered on the principle of unity in diversity.
This book brings together a representative selection of 'Abdu'l-Bahá's writings on the real meaning of religion plus a few descriptions of his life and the power of his presence written by those who encountered him. It is a well presented and attractively produced book - and short (just 99 pages) and, as the title suggests, full of wisdom and insight.

Summary: Fascinating, illuminating, uplifting
Comment: As this book's introduction readily admits, Spiritual Masters are somewhat out of fashion. A growing cynicism in society combined with revelations of the personal shortcomings of some religious leaders has made people distrust those who claim to have a special insight to share with others. Yet even now it is sometimes possible to find "the real thing" and this is one such time.
Abdu'l-Baha (1844-1921) gained guru status among many in the East and West during his lifetime. It was not a status he actively sought, being more concerned to spread the teachings of his father Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i faith, but her spiritual gifts, eloquence, personal humility and selfless life of service drew many to him. He was in himself the embodiment of the teachings he spread.
The book gives glimpses of his life, told through the words of others who observed this remarkable man, and many quotations from his writings and talks, organised by theme. One can dip in to the book or read it cover to cover - either will be truly rewarding.

Summary: Exemplary
Comment: What an extraordinary Person 'Abdu'l-Baha was. His life was a perfect example of how every person should live. This book shows that he did not just 'talk the talk', but most definitely 'walked the walk'. I was majorly inspired by His words of Wisdom and His actions that exemplified them.
