Summary: NAPOLEONIC UNIFORMS Vol III & IV
Comment: These are the long awaited follow-up of Vol I & II. They cover extensively the little known Confederation of the Rhine, The French Allies, and the foes of Napoleon. The one disappointment was the lack of (only two) plates covering the Ottoman Turks. It is a must have for anyone that paints figures from the Napoleonic era.

Summary: A Superb Encore
Comment: Once again Napoleonic authority John Elting has given us a superb reference work on the period that is useful for uniformologists, historians, and those who collect and paint military miniatures. The companion volumes to Napoleonic Uniforms Volumes I and II which were published in 1993, these two new lavishly illustrated books with over 600 watercolors by Herbert Knotel, are undoubtedly the best source for Napoleonic Uniforms in print today. The Confederation of the Rhine, Holland, The Grand Duchy of Warsaw, as well as Great Britain, Austria, Russia, Prussia, and a plethora of minor states are represented here with a clear and concise annortation by Col Elting that not only brings the pictures to life, but gives expert commentary on both the uniforms and the troops and their units. This set is a must for every historical bookshelf, whether or not you are a Napoleonic buff or not.

Comment: More than an exhaustive review of the Napoleonic uniforms, this book is a real piece of art as well as a true and accurate reference regarding this European war period. A "chef d'oeuvre" as significant as Elting's former work "Napoleonic Uniforms". This book will be useful not only for uniformologists, historians or toy soldiers' collectors but also for anyone interested in Napoleon's military history.
