Summary: A Close Look at an Overlooked Classic
Comment: Some three decades ago, when a group of European companies proposed building a twin-engine widebody aircraft, most people in the aviation world thought the idea would be a commercial failure. The A300 is now admired on every continent. The following decade, Airbus proposed another twin-engine design, the A310, a short-bodied version of the venerable A300, with a new advanced high-aspect-ratio wing.

The resulting design is a highly versatile aircraft, suitable for both short- and long-range flights. The aircraft pioneered several innovations now standard on aircraft of this type: a two-person flight deck on a widebody, wingtip fences, and a carbon-fiber fin.

Gunther Endres's book contains a wealth of detail about the development of the A310, touching on its stablemate, the A300. Photo captions are detailed and informative. My only complaint with this book, and others in Airlife Airliners series, is the lack of interior photographs: two flight deck pictures, economy class cabin view, and picture of the rear galley. I really would have liked some views taken from inside the aircraft, especially of the wing flaps upon landing.

The production list and diagrams are thoughtful touches. Overall, the book is up to date and thorough, offering the aviation enthusiast a good look at the overlooked classic that helped put Airbus on the map.

Summary: An excellent look at the Airbus A310
Comment: The Airlife's Airliner series of books cover individual commercial aircraft types in an interesting, in-depth manner.

Each volume of this British series covers a unique commercial aircraft type from its design, production, entry into service, its usage by airlines, and in some cases eventual demise.

Each volume features plenty of color and black and white photographs of the subject aircraft along with a complete construction list (accurate to date of publication for aircraft types still being built).

This volume covers the second aircraft produced by the European Consortium - Airbus. Designed as a medium to long-range airliner, the A310 proved itself to be quite popular operating with such famous carriers as Pan Am, Delta and Lufthansa.

Summary: AIRBUS A310
Comment: Airbus A310 is Gunter Endres' third book in the Airlife's Airliners series. The format is simular to the other books in this series. The book begain with Background and Evolution, follow by design and production, follow by brief intro of aircraft systems and performance, follow by the operators. Good reference book lots of pictures of A-310, and some information on the production sharing of the Airbus, including little history on the Skylink.
