Summary: A Great Book for Teens
Comment: When I bought ÒIreland: A Graphic HistoryÓ in 1995 I did so knowing that it was a ÒgraphicÓ novel of sorts (= comic book). I was looking for something that would be a quick, entertaining and educational read for my three teenagers who would be accompanying me on my 1995-96 ÒFulbright YearÓ in Dublin. The book certainly did not disappoint. The book is composed of a series of vignettes from Irish history centered around a man and woman who are repeatedly reborn in Irish history. From the first story set around the ancient passage tomb at Newgrange to the final chapter that introduces the reader to the ÒtroublesÓ and the first ceasefire (that finally lead to the ongoing peace process in the North), I found the book to be a griping and essentially accurate portrayal of the history of Ireland. My three kids loved reading it and it greatly helped them to make their transition to the new culture and surroundings. Indeed, they all had the opportunity to study the history of the Emerald Isle in depth during their year in Irish schools. I would recommend the book for anyone who wants a very brief and interesting overview of Irish History and who enjoy the graphic novel format. I especially recommend the book for older children or teenagers who may be traveling to Ireland or who are interested in (their) Irish heritage.

Summary: Excellent book that uniquely details Irelands struggles
Comment: Some readers may not see the importance of a book that tells a story in "comic" or sequential art form, but this tale is a great way to introduce youngsters to the history of the Irish. For a teen, this "comic book" might spark the curiosity to want to learn more. Both the story and artwork are excellent.

Summary: This is not a history - it is a cartoon illustration -
Comment: Totally disappointing - it is nothing but a cartoon book. Avoid!!!
