Summary: Mmm...absolutes??
Comment: Jack Howard...good point. I seriously doubt that this book would sway a religous person, either! (Being a religious person myself, I'm not swayed, but I guess I can imagine that some perhaps would be...) I'm just always skeptical of anything that claims in some form to be an absolute proof one way or another. So many people have written absolute proofs for Christianity (I just give that as an example because that's my religious tradition), and so many people have written absolute proofs against it...I seriously doubt that you would be swayed by one of Christianity's "Impossibility of Atheism"-type books. We approach books like this (from both sides) with so many preconcieved notions and personal life experiences that it's almost impossible to look at it objectively.

So ultimately, a book like this may give you more confidence in your chosen faith (even if your faith is atheism), but may not be a worthwhile investment for those of different religious traditions (unless you want to get a glimpse of life on the other side, or rouse up your intellect!). Perhaps a better investment, a debate between an evangelical (Christian) scholar and an atheist...William Lane Craig and Gerd Ludemann, with some commentaries after the debate by other scholars. It's called Jesus' Resurrection: Fact or Figment? (ISBN 0830815694) That way you get a bigger picture.

Summary: The impossibility of reason affecting the religious
Comment: The book details many of the arguments against the existence of a god in a scholarly and comprehensive manner. However, these arguments will never convince a religious person. People are religious because they want to be and for no other reason. And so while I applaud the author's work, and certainly agree with his proofs and conclusions, no religious person will be affected or care.
