Summary: Fantastic Conclusion
Comment: The Final Reckoning is a great ending to the Deptford Mice Trilogy. It is good to see some of the characters that were either only seen in the Dark Portal or only in the Crystal Prison appear in this book, each making a great contribution with their own way of speaking and acting. It is stunningly well-written, with writer Robin Jarvis creating a style that is unique unto its own but echoes other authors who wrote with the genre. The characters, consisting mainly of mice - the protagonists-, rats - the antagonists-, and squirrels, have human qualities that mix well with the animal side, reminiscent of Richard Adam's Watership Down and Brian Jacques's Redwall Saga. As an only complaint, Jarvis tends to get rid of the characters we really like and we end up feeling sorry for them. It is a cruel thing to do to the characters we grew to love in the first two novels. Even though this is the last desperate struggle against Jupiter, too many bite the dust. Otherwise, it is an awsome book, with plenty of intricate details and gloomy, dark settings. A great read for all fans of the fantasy or animal genres.
