Summary: Entertainment Weekly, right on!
Comment: So, I love EW and I read it religiously with my coffee and lunch every Friday when it comes out. I just finished reading "The Book You Have To Read" section, Augusten Burroughs ("Running with Scissors", super cool NYC author), writes about Phineas Mollod and Jason Tesauro's book, "The Modern Gentleman." I have had this book for a few months and I can say that Augusten speaks the truth. It's a great guide to living to the fullest extent at this day and age; they cover everything - dating, music, literature, fashion, fetish, alcohol, etc. Every fiction book they mention that I have read and every overlooked liqueur they recommend that I have tasted, I have loved; dating tips and dinner party table arranging (entertaining) are top of the line; and hell, I even used their Theorem de Valise and learned how to pack a perfect suitcase - I can't believe they figured that out but it works and it's great. So, just want to drive the point home - get this book!

Summary: Essential read for essential manners, savvy and vice
Comment: If Jay Gatsby came back from the fictional grave, showed up at my doorstep and inquired as to how he should conduct himself in the modern world, I would direct him to Phineas Mollod and Jason Tesauro's guide to contemporary manhood, "The Modern Gentleman". Within its irresistable pages he would find everything he needed to know about surviving the age through witty and pragmatic advice on everything from e-mail etiquette, intra-office romance tips and acceptable sexual fetishes to recommended bumper sticker quantities and invaluable advice on wine selections, intoxicant indulgences and the use of profanity. There's a gentleman's reading list, a guide to courtship and marital bliss as well as tips on incorporating pornography into the healthy relationship. Even if you're not expecting a visit from old Gatsby this holiday season, I'd recommend "The Modern Gentleman" be added to your gift list for the recent post graduate or man in need of a little prudence. Mollod and Tesauro have penned a fun, noteworthy manual to be savored upon first read and referred to often.

Summary: not just for gentlemen
Comment: I originally purchased the book hoping to help my HOPELESS "beau du jour" who was desperately in need of manners and savvy . . . he had the vice part down, but let's not go into that. I was pleasantly surprised by it's content. This book is not only pertinent to young males in need of grooming, but to all individuals who wish to ameliorate their social skills. It contains a plethora of information on a myriad of subjects ranging from black-tie etiquette to survival in the wilderness (with panache). I especially liked the illustrations and the witty way the authors' wrote. It was so enjoyable to read - it was more like a novel than a book about manners. After I completed it, I dumped the guy. Phineas Mollod and Jason Tesauro raised the bar on my standards for men!
