Comment: Tao of Equus is a book that truly offers new possibilities for our understanding of ourselves as evolving human beings as well as our relationship with and appreciation of horses as intelligent, sensitive, intuitive partners in that evolution. After 15 years of personal and spiritual development, I gained new understanding of my human and spiritual potential and tapped into the power and possiblity of being facilitated on my journey by these amazing four-legged beings. Summary: Tao of Equus blew me away!
Comment: I was fortunate to see Linda Kohanov at a book lecture and signing - she is a smart and talented horsewoman. The "Tao of Equus" is about equine-assisted therapy. When I was 7 years old I rode a pony that stopped on a hilltop. I wondered why, then I realized he stopped so we could share in the sunset, bird songs and slight breeze together. For the very first time in my life I experienced "oneness" and it was incredible. Everytime I have ridden a horse, I have felt more grounded in my body, more balanced, and truly happy. Equine are amazing animals and teachers. Linda Kohanov has put down in words various things I have felt but was not able to express. She has done a lot of research and has taken the time to explain why some people can't seem to heal or succeed in their lives. The reader learns how horses aid us in getting in touch with our authentic selves, help us gain confidence, heal repressed emotions, relationship skills, and more. I was moved to tears. Linda has explained how horses are not just mounts, they are wise friends of the heart, who teach us without judgement. Enjoy!

Summary: Don't judge this book by its cover
Comment: It is a gorgeous cover. Brilliant blue. But pay attention to what you are buying. If you are looking for a book that is a "how to" on communicating with your horse, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for anecdotal horse stories that are varied and interesting, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for an easy read, even a semi-easy read, then go buy a Monty Roberts book, not this one.
If you want a book that addresses the human-equine connection, then buy this book. But beware, Linda's writing style is wordy and sometimes difficult to focus upon. She talks about her personal connection with her horse, but does not give direct ideas or example on how to achieve this yourself. She addresses intuition a great deal, and how she has used this in working with her horses as well as her human clients.
Linda dives into the history and mythology of the horse, as well as Junge and his connection with dreams and horses. She does go a bit "out there" when she talks about summoning her "horse ancestors" to help her understand horses that she is working with that have problems. Do not buy this book based on a pretty cover and a vague inner flap. Before you spend your twenty bucks, read reviews and understand what you are buying.
