Comment: Network security - Windows2000 security - within the LAN, WAN, and into the Internet, is an essential and critical part of your networking body of knowledge. Microsoft rightly has a certification exam pointed straight at that important and ongoing need - 70-220.

This book presents itself as preparation material for the MCSE track 70-220 Security Design exam. That claim couldn't be more off the mark. The presentation by the author is from the perspective of a consultant - and not to someone interested in the comprehension of technical knowledge, but rather aimed at an executive level or "overview" audience.

Chapter after chapter I found myself listening to the author drum on about his views of the past and the future. But, I was sadly disappointed as to any material relevant to expanding my insight into network security in general, and to Windows 2000 Security Design specifically.

I scoured reviews up and down the web for some decent preparation material - no publication jumped out. So, I grabbed this new offering by the well respected "Exam Cram" publisher as a logical choice. Hence, this review to prepare the unwary.

Forget any idea you might have concerning preparing for an exam with this book. As some of us in the trenches are fond of saying about a different (and unmentioned) publisher - "Don't buy it. If someone gives it to you, DON'T READ IT." You will learn little, the frustration will overwhelm you, and your time is better spent in front of the late night news.

There are other MUCH better books on Windows2000 security albeit not aimed at preparing the reader for the 70-220 exam. ...

My personal suggestion for this exam preparation is to review your core information, STUDY the above two books, and then find some practice exams. You'll coast through.

Finally, this "Personal Trainer" [price], it is an insult. Don't do it.
