Summary: Always get a second opinion.
Comment: I only used this book to study for the exam and I think that it was a bit foolish (I did pass.). This book does an excellent job of presentating the material that is covered on the Network+ exam but it isn't truly complete. It feels strong geared towards Microsoft servers and the Windows comunity, while the exam felt more platform independant. I would definitely recommend the book, but I would strongly suggest reading a few chapters from another book while you are at a local bookstore/library. Always get a second perspective from another book or it's exam or an exam available on-line. The person that generally writes the book, writes the questions as well, so it tends to be biased on what they taught or focused on.
The chapters are nicely written so that you could read them seperately if you wanted because reused terms or concepts from previous chapters are redefined creating excellent use of repetition which aides in the studying process. The questions are sometimes fairly easy and it's uncanny that quite a few of them were on the exam. It did lack diagrams of problem configurations to troubleshoot which would be excellent in further editions or possibly in the Exam Cram.

Summary: Real good book for a not so tough exam
Comment: This book is an excellent primer on the world of networks. It was pretty easy to read but covered a real wide range of information, just like the exam. I thought the exam was pretty easy but it did cover a wide range of topics. The book must have prepared me well because I finished the exam rather quickly with a 95%. Either the test just wasn't as tough as I expected or this book was better than I thought. This was a lot of the same stuff as the Networking Essentials too, but with a little more detail and a lot better explanations and samples than the MS book. I wish I had this book for that test I wouldn't have flunked it the first time. The TCP/IP section was real complete too, I may just try the Microsoft TCP/IP exam next. This book is complete and all you'll need for this test and probably a few others too.

Summary: Works just as well for N10-002. Great Reference.
Comment: While this book was written for the first edition of the Network+ exam (N10-001), it works just as well for the new edition of the Exam (N10-002). CompTIA has not updated the test very much. Use this book along with the CompTIA objective page and a good Test Sim (PrepLogic, Exam Essentials, Self Test, etc.) and you should pass without a problem. The Cramsession sheet for the Network+ (also available from Amazon[.com]) makes a nice complement to this book. I used this book for my main reference, along with the Cramsession PDF file, and a couple of test sims to drill and I just completed the test with a 780 out of 900 (roughly 86.7%). Good luck on the exam.
