Summary: Everyone can take something positive away from this book.
Comment: I don't deny that the "science" presented in any of the Fit for Life books can sometimes sound elementary at best. But I think the bigger picture is that the book is uplifting and inspirational. Used as a guideline for going about one's daily eating habits, these ideas make a world of difference. Perhaps the reasons provided are not scientifically accurate. But then again, it's not like you get a free bottle of "mystery pills" with each book. All he's really promoting is a move back to a more natural approach to fueling our bodies. We have become such a junkfood society, it's embarrassing. There are so many people out there who feel a burger/fries/soda combo is a decent meal. What's so wrong with reading a book by a man who is trying to point out the ludicrous nature of so many of our commonplace bad habits? Afterall, what type of epidemic do we have in this country? We're not underweight, we're not protein-deficient, we're not living healthfully into our senior years- the fact is we're overweight and unhealthy as a society. And our quality of life diminishes much too soon as a result. So look around the next time you're in the mall, or at the local restaurant- try to find people you think WOULDN'T benefit from learning how to eat more healthfully. I've personally experienced enormous benefits from doing just SOME of the things promoted in Fit For Life and its successors. And I've known and helped others who've been just as fortunate. You don't have to treat these books as your bible, just try to take away some of the beneficial and motivational advice, and apply it to your life. I've read a number of books on healthy eating practices, and to be honest, many of them say similar things. The important difference is that this book is enjoyable. It's easy to read. And that's the best way to get this information to more people. If every person read this and made even a FEW healthy changes in their lives, just think of the impact. My wish is for more people to take control of their health by making good choices each and every day. And who knows- you may even enjoy the food being recommended here. What have you got to lose? Isn't your health, your body, your happiness, and your ability to enjoy the world around you worth it?

Summary: Maybe the theories are wrong, but this works and is SAFE
Comment: To the bub in Oklahoma who is so hell-bent on trashing Harvey's ideas:
First of all, you say this diet is so unsafe. Have you ever actually talked to a doctor and mentioned the foods that you eat on this plan? Or a nutritionist? My doctor said this was a fabulous way to eat--whether or not you agree with the theories of toxins or not--the varieties and kinds of whole and natural foods, including fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meat, all fall in the guidelines of the basic four foodgroups. Harvey just recommends you eat the foods combined differently--which worked for me. I lost 40 pounds in 4 months, eating all the time.
Secondly, why the anger at this diet? Have you tried it? Have YOU cracked a nutrition book, or asked a doctor if this is safe? Didn't think so. Try reading the first book, Fit for Life--there are tons of doctors in the endorsements...again, my own doctor praised this way of eating.
The hard thing about this diet is making your own meals. And buying fresh foods and preparing them constantly. That's what was so tough for me.
Anyway, I doubt you'll change your mind because of my words, but I just wanted to weigh in and say, "What are you talking about?" Trying to scare people away from such sound and workable ideas as the Diamonds...
By the way, I have NOT read this book, I only give it 5 stars because the other books were so good. Notice that Anthony Robbins gives it the thumbs up by the way...

Summary: Scientifically incorrect - be careful!
Comment: Before rating all of the negative reviews as being unhelpful and criticizing anyone who brings up actual facts, please do some research and find out the truth.
Yes, eating fruits and vegetables is healthy - I'm sure most of us didn't need a book to tell us that. However, eliminating certain food groups completely is NOT healthy, and nor is there any scientific evidence to support the "food combining" theory. Anyone who has ever taken a biology or nutrition course at the high school level should be able to recognize the obvious ridiculousness of the pseudoscience presented in this book.
No, do NOT take the suggestion of another reviewer and disregard negative reviews - they bring up valid, scientifically verified points that I can't believe so many people are willing to ignore. Many of the claims made by Harvey Diamond are simply FALSE, period. Others are half-truths, twisted versions of some vaguely scientific fact designed to make you believe the false nutritional information in this book.
Read a review written by someone who is actually qualified - a Registered Dietitian, or RD, which is a title that is protected by law so that only those who meet all of the qualifications and education requirements can call themselves that....>They both are written by RD's - in other words, people with a real, valid educational background in nutrition, who are qualified to give nutritional advice.
Harvey Diamond, on the other hand, possesses a "PhD" from an unaccredited school that was formed by a high school dropout who believed that viruses do not exist. The school has since been forbidden from using the word "College" in its name and from granting academic credits or degrees.
PLEASE, before you believe ridiculous claims such as those made by Harvey Diamond, do some research! It seriously disturbs me that so many people could believe such obviously untrue statements. Please be careful and find out the scietific facts before you go believing everything you read in some book.
