Comment: "Hooves and Horns, Fins and Feathers" offers the kind of rewarding challenges that my students enjoy. As a creative dance teacher, I needed curriculum to teach a K-2 after school program. Gerke and Landalf have presented layers of rich information into a small book that is inspiring, accessible, and fun.

The book's suggestions were a stable anchor for my classes to explore far- reaching possibilities. Besides having extensive performing experience, the authors are seasoned teachers. Their meaty insights inspired my identity as a teacher. The writing expertly guided me in creating an environment where students were fully engaging in creating together. Wow!

The clear writing makes the book enjoyable and easy to read all the way through. Each lesson prepared me with a title, description of context, skills gained, affordable and convenient materials and preparation, teaching procedure, commentary and variations. The book presents twenty lessons with a satisfying flow between introduction, building action, and closure. Since my class met only 8 sessions, I condensed the first ten lessons. There is enough material, however, to explore throughout an entire summer camp. The well- crafted writing and clarity of purpose is wonderful to read!

The variety and intrigue of experiences focus children's abundant and colorful energy. The children were thrilled with the opportunity to develop their imaginations. The jobs of nature photographers and wild animals required whole- hearted action. When asked what they'd remember at the end, children responded, "I liked it when we had to face the shark," "I liked traveling," " I liked my pet shark that I trained in three minutes," and "I went all over the world."
