Summary: GREAT for Beginners
Comment: After reading a few other reviews, I agree with some of the book's shortcomings, as listed. But the authors of those reviews sound as if they already know a thing or two about makeup. But, if you are like me (happy with a little eyeliner, mascara and lipstick) and THEN came across Mr. Fine's book, you would probably be just as thrilled as I was with your new look and make-up professionalism! Had Mr. Fine included steps 1, 2, 3,...100, and VOILA!, a beautiful new you, it would have been too overwhelming for me - one who questions the need for a toner from time to time.
(Mr. Fine, based on the reviews, maybe you will consider putting something together for the semi-professional make-up artists (or for those who have consumed your first book) to satisfy the make-up artist ready for the next level.)
Overall, I thought it was the best thing I've ever read regarding make-up application for African-American women. Oh yeah, regarding "Sam's Friends" in the back, I think it's a great place to look for hairstyles, fashion and the make-up look you may aspire to achieve.
I loved Mr. Fine's book and continue to share it with friends. (BTW, he sure is fine, ain't he?) Good luck!

Summary: Simply the best...........better than all the rest......
Comment: ....Tina Turner sang it best....., and Sam's work is second to none. He has totally transformed the way African Americans and Blacks in general, has for so long applied make-up improperly and without total success. I think Sam Fine did an excellent job with all the tips and models used. I'm a licensed hair professional, and I've seen lots of make-up, tips, classes, shows, etc., and I must say that Sam Fine is simply outstanding and has displayed nothing but true artistry. This book is a must for everyone's library. Sam keep up the good work, and I will forever be a true and loyal fan of yours. God Bless You and much success 2 your future.

Summary: Lacks True Beauty Tips
Comment: If you are looking for a book that will give you makeup application ideas, look elsewhere. But if you want to see a makeup artist stroke his ego by being associated with big Hollywood names, then this is the book for you.
When I got this book I believed it would provide me with detailed information on how to apply makeup and what I could do to improve my look. Instead I get approximately 10-12 pages of information that I could have read in a beauty magazine. The remaining pages are filled with photos of the women he has made up such as Brandy, Patti Labell, and Tyra Banks. Then you get to hear about his life. Big Deal.
The saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" really does apply to this one.
