Summary: A Great US History Text that Reads Like a Novel!
Comment: Doctors McMillen and Bolton do a wonderful job of keeping any college student alert in their 8th revision of this wonderful text. Dr. McMillen thoroughly describes major events in post-bellum United States history in an easy-to-understand style.
McMillen also explores historians' fallacies in the concise essays at the end of each chapter. One of the best is the discussion of the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima at the end of WWII. Dr. McMillen insightfully describes the ongoing debate in historical circles regarding the question of dating this attack at the end of WWII or beginning of the Cold War.
This book would be a great addition even to the library of someone who didn't enjoy history in High School or College. Even though history is my chosen field, I think that anyone who wants to learn more about the history of our country should read this text.
