Summary: Replaces Sophie's Heart as my favorite!
Comment: A few months ago when I finished Sophie's Heart I thought no other book by Lori Wick would ever be as good. I was wrong. Pretense was fabulous! I was engrossed before page 100 which in a 700 page book that was not so bad. The storyline is very involved, and the highlight of the book is the characters. They were very realistic and so well developed that they were believable. I cried twice in the book, and often found myself chuckling or laughing hysterically at Mackenzie's comments. The message of salvation is woven beautifully throughout the book. I'm glad the Wick made the girls wait a while to come to Christ. It was good that she could illustrate through her story that there is no sin that God can not forgive, and that all people even Christians must struggle with temptations. After I read page 702, I just sat there staring at the page not wanting to read the last sentence because the book couldn't possibly be over already! Thank you Lori Wick for the best book I've read in a long time!

Summary: Pretty Good, but some problems...
Comment: Overall, I liked this book a lot and I do like Lori Wick as an author. I won't go so far as to say that I loved it, since there were some problems with it. First of all, it was very long! I don't mind reading long books usually, but this one just seemed to drag on. I like books that develop their plot well, but this one just seemed to keep developing and developing into overkill with no end in sight. I loved the fact that Mackenzie and Delancey didn't just accept Christ because of their parents' faith, but worked through it on their own, without the overdramatized, unbelievable conversions that so many Christian authors love to use these days. I also loved the relationship between Mackenzie and Delancey, even though Lori Wick did tend to empahsize their absolute perfection a lot without any faults at all. For example, they're both incredibly beautiful, extremely talented, published immediately, rich, etc. It makes for some boring reading when you know that you'll never be as perfect as them. Plus, she uses the word 'indeed' in practically every other paragraph, and after a while, it makes it hard to read and repetitive, and a lot of the scenes were extraneous and could have been cut out completely. I realize that this review sounds harsh, don't get me wrong, I liked it a lot; it just had some problems that kept me from loving it completely.

Summary: Truly Inspirational, An excellent read.
Comment: I just finished this book and i absolutely loved it, after i read "sophie's heart" some months ago, i fell in Love with Lori wick and have searched frantically for her books on the net. I got pretense 5 days ago and after i started reading, it was really hard to put down. I even read till 6 am one day even though i had to be at work by 9 am (thats how good it was), but i did have to put it down sometimes because it was just so disheartening!!!; but other times, i laughed so hard, my roomate probably thought i had gone bonkers. This book is truly inspiring, it has got me thinking about a lot of things especially because i'm like micki in many ways, and thats what inspirational novels are supposed to do -get u thinking.
Thank u Mrs Wick, u've reached out to me in a way i never could have imagined.
If ure thinking about reading this book, stop thinking and go read it. Any problem anyone had with it probably arose from thinking too much like an editor and not a reader. I did that for a while but then threw my editors cap off, else i was going to miss my blessing. Just read it, ull be glad u did!
