Summary: The Green Knight Returns.....
Comment: When we last saw Ollie Queen, A.K.A. Green Arrow, he was being blown to bits in an exploding plane above Metropolis. No less an authority than Superman confirmed, after scanning the area, that there was nothing left. There would be no hope for the miraculous resurrection that we comic fans take for granted.
So when big-shot movie guy Kevin Smith started making noise a few years ago about doing a Green Arrow book with Ollie Queen, I was intrigued, to say the least. How could he bring him back without resorting to a cheap gimmick that would make the story a joke...?
Having just read Quiver, I really can't answer that. The story involves Heaven, Hell, The Supernatural, Superman, The Spectre, The Demon, The Phantom Stranger, Deadman, and a long-forgotten team from DC's past. None of these things should gel with a street-level hero like Green Arrow. NONE OF THEM. Yet Kevin Smith, with the art team of Phil Hester & Ande Park, made me buy into every bit of it. Smith deals with bits of DC continuity that I thought no one could possibly remember, but does it in such a way that, while bringing a smile to the face of longtime comic readers like me, doesn't alienate new readers or make them feel like they're missing something. The writing is top-notch, as is the art, and all involved deserve a round of applause for making every member of the DC Universe spanning cast act and look distinctive. The ending is scary, exciting, and touching all at the same time, and the final page gives readers something they've been clamoring for for years. I can't recommend Quiver enough, both to comic book fans, and fans of Mr. Smith's movies. Great, Great stuff!

Summary: Not good if you're unfamiliar with the characters
Comment: I picked up this comic book without ever reading a Green Arrow book before. Maybe if you're familiar with the Green Arrow and the rest of the characters in the series, this would be entertaining. Also, i may be biased, as i'm not a guy and it's the guys who this is geared to. However, I found it annoying the author wouldn't take the time to include a brief synopsis regarding both plot and characters, at the beginning of the book. I had a very difficult time following what was going on. Additionally, the Green Arrow himself did not appeal to me. It just wasn't a protagonist i could care about. I must admit though, i did not actually finish this book as i decided it was not worth my time. If you've never heard of the Green Arrow before now is not the time to get into the series.
Note- fellow females- check out 'Meridian' instead. It is way cool.

Summary: Messy and meandering.
Comment: Believe me when I say that I was looking forward to reading this series the way a kid growing up in the early 80's would be on Christmas morning knowing that an Atari 2600 was waiting under the tree. I mean, talk about your tasty yin-yang combo with hardcore fanboy Kevin Smith resurrecting the cult favorite Green Arrow. But alas, was I ever left winded after slogging through this 10 issue mess of a series. How did this Model T break down? Couple of key stumbles in my opinion:
1) Poor plotting and pacing - This is a comic book for pete's sake! Don't wait till issue 8 before we cut to the crux of the action and are formally introduced to the arch villain of the series.
2) Painful dialogue - While I love Kevin Smith's penchant for dialogue in the movies for some reason the dialogue sounds completely awkward. Especially bad are the lines given to teenage characters. At best they sound like shoddy attempts to mimic Joss Whedon-speak, ala 'Buffy.'
Then again, for those of you completely enamored with the D.C. Universe this series is definitely a 'not-to-be-missed,' but for those of you unfamiliar with G. Arrow this is not exactly the best introduction to the character and his storyline.
