Rating: 2
Summary: next year in cuba
Comment: I read this book in the summer of 2002, i found the author's experience similar to mine. i wish that i can get in contact with him at a later date. the book was very emotional because our struggle to see our land free is far from over. i loved this book.

Rating: 4
Summary: Good, Not Great
Comment: I have to agree with previous reviewers that this book does bring out the truth that, especially for us forced to leave our nations due to political tyranny, there is no place that feels like home. Firmat does a good job at showing that we are not alone in thinking that no matter how American/Cuban we are, we are just not American or Cuban. That said, however, my problem with the book is the fact that I feel that while the author does a good job at showing the divergent tugs on a refugee's heartstrings, at the end, the book left me flat, without a resolution. Answers are hard to come by, true, but I felt he never arrived at a closure.

Rating: 5
Summary: La sangre latina
Comment: To say that I was thoroughly moved by this book would be an understatement. I am Dominican and living in the same state and just about same town as Mr. Firmat. To read his words made me realize I wasn't alone in my feelings and struggles. I didn't come by way of the exilio but every day I look for the connections back to my island. Read this book for pleasure, read it for introspection, read it because you too are looking for the latino drums that you feel but can't explain how you once stopped hearing them.
