Summary: Exciting subject but simple plot.
Comment: The book starts with huge hype and interest. Millions of peoplesuddenly disappear and only handful of individuals understand thisevent means nothing less than the rapture of the church and Jesus promised second coming. A reader is finding some information about the apocalypse time, but if one doesn't have a good knowledge of the "Bible", one will find some difficulty in understanding the dare consequences of being "Left behind". The subject is extremely interesting and important for believers and non-believers but the plot is somehow shallow and second-handed, and the story is for the most part of the book rather slow. Some ideas force you to think about life and morality , but some others are very naïve. Reader will find rather amusing the concept of Romanian Antichrist, who first needs an assistance from international business people and American press to take over United Nations while hypnotizing all advisors and non-believers, and elevating pretty but simple flight attendant to the role of First Lady. I had to admit I was looking forward to read the next sequel but when I had found out that Messrs. Lahaye and Jenkins decided to drag this story in 12 books, I became less excited about this entire story.

Summary: Thanks, but I prefer to hang out with the unsaved
Comment: This novel basically tells the story of how if you are part of the in-crowd (i.e. you have the same silly mythological beliefs and superstitions as them), then you get to go to everlasting paradise, but if you aren't, well then you hang around and are part of total annihilation. If this sounds like a bad movie script written by a 4th grader after being bullied on the playground, it gets scarier when you realize people make life decisions based on this drivel.
Rating: 2
Summary: At best guilty pleasure fiction.
Comment: Obviously whether or not you're a Christian will influence whether or not you enjoy this book (and series). Most of the reviews others have left for the most part are accurate in their assessment. My complaints centrally revolve around two points:
1) In an effort to make the prophetic events palatable as popular fiction, the story centers around a "cast" of characters. One has to suspend disbelief to swallow a story where events of such magnitude revolve only around a handful of people. You can almost see the Hollywood movie-like casting, obligatory racial stereotypes included.
2) For readers who happen to be Christian, the fact that the book is fiction (though based on prophesied events) seems to be somewhat insulting to faith. That is, if one believes the prophesies that form the basis of the story, reading about them in a book peddled to the masses alongside other fiction offerings like Star Trek may seem to denigrate their importance.
IMHO, it's best for the Christian and non-Christian alike to see this book as a piece of fiction based on prophesy, and nothing more.
