Summary: Great story, but seems there should be more to it.
Comment: While the overall story about Tom's life after the civil war is good, I would have liked to know what he did between the chapter where his wife died in childbirth and the next chapter where his daughter is 11 years old! The ending indicates that Tom plans to leave the Army, but in Book 16, "The Jeweled Spur," which is about his daughter several years later, he's still in the Army, and never intends to leave. In another later book, Sky & Rebekah's children hold a reunion, and this time Tom HAS left the Army. He'd be considered quite wishy-washy in real life!

Summary: Touching Story In Unusual Historical Setting
Comment: The House of Winslow series continues with the story of Sky Winslow's son Tom, who has been left alone with a newborn daughter to raise. Wanting to leave memories of the Civil War and a bitter marriage behind, Tom heads West and joins the Army in its efforts among the Indians. Gilbert Winslow weaves the fictional story of Tom's battle to make peace with his past and with God with the true and tragic story of Custer's Last Stand. As with other books in this series, I enjoyed learning the historical details while watching another member of the House of Winslow develop faith in God. I can't wait to read Book Fourteen to discover what happens next in America and among the Winslows.
