Summary: Good but not great.
Comment: Baxter's book is old, (at least for Magic) but a lot of the things he talks about are staples for any serious player. When I bought the book, I hadn't been playing for long and it introduced me to several important concepts(card advantage, deck ideas, mana ratios). Baxter's writing style is far from perfect and I would have liked to seen more tournament quality decks in his book. Nor does he cover any element of sealed deck or draft. I guess the bottom line is, if you think you're a good player, skip it. If you're a beginner, give it a try. I'd try something slightly more recent though, if you can find it.
Rating: 1
Summary: Awful
Comment: Not because of the fact that the information is outdated; this is to be expected in Magic, which changes daily. The atrocity of the book is that it is not for experts at all; much of it is so basic it reads like a manual of How To Play Magic, not how to Win At It.
Rating: 1
Summary: Not worth the money
Comment: This book might be good for a beginner, but it definitely isn't "advanced strategies" like it says. Most of what Baxter covers is common sense to anyone who has played in a tournament before or made their own decks.
