Summary: Apparent French-Canadian influence
Comment: Perhaps this is subtle enough to be overlooked by many, but Luppens' short story "What Do the Fairies Do With All Those Teeth?" has strong paganish undertones not appropriate for young children. Though this story is designed to be enjoyed by children ages four through eight, Luppens calls question to one of the fundamental tiers of the tooth fairy myth: historically, the tooth fairy has been portrayed as singular in nature, whereas heathenish culture might describe a host of tooth-taking fairies. So doing does the author also cause curiosity regarding monotheism as a whole: if there is more than one fairy, what is stopping this from applying to the Easter bunny, Saint Nick, and God himself? Jesus descended from heaven through the body of the Virgin Mary; he is the ONLY son of the ONLY father - fragments of the divine trinity which describe our one and holy God.

Furthermore, these fairies are far more than the sprite who swaps teeth with money - they are nothing more than undersized witches, flying around on a magic pillow and waving wands under their pointy hats. These "fairies" even have such animal familiars as a helpful cat and mouse, doing their mischievious chores of paying off young children for deciduous dentition. The tooth fairy is subversive enough as an undeveloped myth; let us not expound upon the story in such an unwholesome way. Is this the kind of model you want your little Christian idolizing?
