Summary: Very dull reading
Comment: First a caveat on my review... I have only read to page 174 out of the 441, so there might be something redeeming about this book in the last two-thirds.
So far there have only been three characters in this book. Tavish Graham who finds the shipwrecked and half-frozen Sophie d'Alembert and only stays with us for the first two chapters of the book. Sophie, the french granddaughter of Louis XIV, who is fleeing from a forced marriage and refuses to trust the third and final character, James Graham, with her identity.
From chapters three to eleven, the only characters are Sophie and James. There are no servants, family, neighbors...nothing. While having only two characters isn't necessarily a problem, having only two characters that are poorly developed and have very little to do except mistrust each other and want to jump each other's bones at the same time can be a drudgery to read.
If you like characters with a bit of depth and background or...
... historical romance with some memorable historic content or...
... novels with an interesting and fast-paced plot, then 'The Highlander' might not be the right choice for you.

Summary: Great Book!
Comment: I read alot of books. It seems I always hit a rut with so-so books at least once a year. This is the first book of Ms Coffman's I have read. It was great. Great characters, good storyline, kept you interested. One of those, stayed up to late reading, books. It was not a waste of money or time. I recommend reading this book. Especially is you like books set in Scotland and/or the Highlands.
Rating: 5
Summary: Really not so bad as others have made it out to be
Comment: I actually enjoyed this novel quite a bit. The hero was appropriately domineering at times, the heroine was properly concerned with the safety of herself, then with the people around her, and the evil people were sufficiently evil. Kind of a brain-dead book maybe, but worth the money, in my opinion.
