Summary: Learning the truth about Chiropractic
Comment: This book is beneficial and is as balanced as truth can be about chiropractic. Very little objective information is available on chiropractic. I am a doctor and truthfully feel we would all be better off without wasting government money on the minimally helpful practice.

Rating: 5
Summary: Comprehensive expose'
Comment: This is an excellent book, bringing together the history and facts of what may be one of the greatest hoaxes in history. If you want the straight facts concerning chiropractic, I have found no resource better. I feel sorry for all the desperate people being duped into chiropractic care, or as a career choice. Perhaps this book can serve to avert similar disasters for others.

Summary: THIS BOOK HAS TOO MANY BIASES, NOT RELIABLE
Comment: I AGREE WITH THE AUTHORS THAT CHIROPRACTIC PATIENTS ARE GENERALLY EXTREMELY SATISFIED WITH THEIR CARE.
After all, unlike typical medical care, it does not rely on harmful drugs with their serious, often deadly, side effects.

Unfortunately, THE AUTHORS ARE NOT DOCTORS and have no health training, so a whole book to point out what are rare problems of a safe type of treatment, is a time-waster for the reader. The premise seems to be confused and unfocused, making it A VERY DIFFICULT READ.

On the one hand they say that people are very happy with their care and results, often after trying everything else with little success. On the other hand they infer that people are not smart enough to know that what they think has helped them, really has not helped them. NOT BEING DOCTORS, their conclusions are unconvincing and even DUBIOUS.

They give the reader no credit in ability to reason and draw one's own conclusions, but instead seem to be attempting to brain-wash the reader into believing that the authors know what's best for us. As a reader who knows many people who have had, and also has personally had, many positive experiences with chiropractics, I find this more than a little annoying. As laymen with no medical degrees and NOT DOCTORS OF ANY KIND that I could determine, the authors miss the mark completely by pretending to be experts on health issues.

It would seem that THE PURPOSE OF THIS TREATISE IS TO STOP PEOPLE FROM TRYING SAFER, NON-DRUG TREATMENT METHODS.

THE AUTHORS ALSO APPEAR TO WANT TO KEEP THE ATTENTION OFF OF THE NUMEROUS, PREVENTABLE ERRORS AND INJURIES OF TYPICAL MEDICAL CARE CAUSING OVER 350,000 DEATHS every year according to several prestigious medical journals. Curiously, they seem to ignore this horrific statistic as there is no mention of it anywhere.

The overall STYLE of writing is on a very NEGATIVE tone. Since they are NOT DOCTORS of any kind and have no professional credentials in any health field, this could explain their lack of ability to communicate health information in a neutral, professional way. This style of writing, in my opinion, detracts from what could have been a much more constructive contribution to the public's knowledge base in health matters.

Reading this "investigation" is like reading a supermarket tabloid - a failed attempt to bolster sagging readership, fraught with exaggerations meant to frighten rather than inform. Very unseemly. In my opinion, it seems to be a therapy session in anger management for the authors.

These writers might do well to take an introductory course in journalism.
