Summary: A day-by-day calendar that tempts you to keep looking ahead
Comment: I had The Onion 2002 Day-by-Day Calendar, which consisted of fake newspaper headlines from the 20th century. For some reason I was unable to track down the 2003 edition and ended up substituting one by George Carlin instead, which certainly has been helping to put a fresh perspective on each and every day. Michael had better luck this Christmas, helped no doubt by the fact that he is going to school in Madison, the original home of The Onion. Apparently the 2004 Day-by-Day Calendar is based on "Ad Nauseum," the 13th volume of the collected stuff and nonsense from the folks who have have carved out their caustic niche in contemporary American journalism. The only complaint (and realize I was just flipping through the calendar LOOKING and was not actually READING anything at this point since it is still 2003) is that instead of just headlines and wacky tidbits, there are some articles from "Ad Nauseum" broken down into multiple entries over a series of consecutive dates. Are you really inclined to read any newspaper or magazine article a few paragraphs a day over the course of a week? Will we still be inclined to rip off a page each day or will we have to wait until the whole article has been read so we can look back and remember what was happening? This is a legitimate question because even with just LOOKING I can see that entries will end in the middle of a sentence (no period at the end). Perhaps we should have just expected this sort of wackiness from The Onion.
