Summary: It Will Do
Comment: Rating this book is somewhat difficult. Nikki Turner did an o.k. job to me. Now if you compare it to The Coldest Winter Ever, it is garbage. But just to read, it will do. I gave the book a 3 which is an average rating. But The Coldest Winter Ever deserves 10 stars! You can tell Nikki is familiar with the streets. Some of the events were funny and real. I was getting ready to say that her being fifteen and all she went through is unrealistic, but it isn't. Plenty of girls fall in love with men that sell drugs and go for the ride of whatever the dope game brings. That is what this book is about. A girl who falls in love with an older drug dealer and what happens in her life when he is locked up. The book is worth reading, but it has a long way to go to reach the level of Sister Souljah's book.

Summary: Thank You Nikki Turner,
Comment: for telling an Urban tale with skill. As a bookseller and an avid reader, I am gratful to you for telling Yarnise's story. African American fiction, with the popularity of the "Coldest Winter Ever", "B-More Careful" and others, finds itself embarking on the "era" of the gritty urban street novel. Books that aren't all about upwardly mobile black people, with good jobs, nice cars, look good and just can't seem to find a man; but rather tell the tale of what life is like in the "ghetto" and the underworld that haunts many of our cities today. With this trend, many "authors" feel that "well, i sold drugs, I have been da jail, let me write a book", and it has been my experience that these efforts are TIRED, POORLY WRITTEN, and just plain HORRIBLE. That was until I read about Yarnie and Daz. I was drawn from page one to hear this story. I feel that Ms. Turner did a wonderful job of painting a picture of the choices that many young women face today. I felt that she remained true in the effort to "keep it Real", yet tell a entertaining story.
Her ability to capture the essence of a hustler's wife is what I believe sets this apart. Not since Asha Bandele's A Prisoner's Wife, has someone giving this ever growing (sad but true) population such a voice. I appauld Ms. Turner in her effort, I wish her success on her furture endeavors...

Summary: PRETTY GOOD READ
Comment: I JUST FINISHED READING THIS BOOK. I FOUND IT TO BE VERY INTERESTING. MY ONLY PROBLEM IS YARNI JUST KEPT HOOKING UP WITH THE WRONG GUYS TIME AND TIME AGAIN IT WAS LIKE SHE HAD THIS RADAR ON HER THAT SAID I LOVE BAD BOYS. I WANT TO BE HURT YOU KNOW IT TOOK HER TOO LONG TO REALIZE THE FACT THAT SHE DIDN'T NEED A MAN TO TAKE CARE OF HER. SHE WAS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF DOING IT HERSELF.
