Summary: Exciting and Controversial.
Comment: First, let me say that I do not believe that Castle of Wisdom is a book for every reader. It is a strange book, and it is controversial too.
Castle of Wisdom's point of view is that of conservative Christianity, which means that those who accept the "morality of the moment" and "political correctness" might take offense from some of its implications.
Castle of Wisdom is the story of a man who ventures out of his native village to search for the meaning of life. According to legend, the meaning of life is written in stone at the "Castle of Wisdom" so the young man spends something like eighteen years searching for it.
The story held my attention very well, and I think I understood at least the first level of symbolism. I enjoyed the book, but again, I say that it is not for all readers. Just be prepared to think and to be challenged if you decide to read it.

Summary: Deep, but Fun, a rare combination.
Comment: "Castle of Wisdom," though entirely different in writing style, reminds me of a C.S. Lewis book because it is one of those rare books that makes some very deep points about the meaning of life but it also gives us a fun story to read.
I ordered the book because I had heard many good things about it, and I am glad I did. The book refreshed me and left me with a warm feeling. I have never read another book like it.
The story is this: A young man named Elias goes on a long walk to find the "Castle of Wisdom" because he believes he will learn the meaning of life if he finds it. Of course many distracting things happen along the way-- romance, adventure, captivity, you name it. But in all circumstances he learns things, and each experience contributes to the final experience of learning the thing written in the Castle. It all ties together.
So at long last he enters the Castle, and there, written on the wall behind the throne is the meaning of life... er, I can't tell you about that part. That would ruin the reading experience.
"Castle of Wisdom" was well worth my nine bucks and one of the best books I've ever read. Enjoy!

Summary: The Meaning of Life-- Best Book on Subject.
Comment: Castle of Wisdom is the best book on the subject of the meaning of life that I've ever read. Through a fictional story with layers of symbolism, the author communicates the meaning of life on several levels. The story is about a young man who goes on a long journey to find a crumlbing old ruin called "The Castle of Wisdom." Along the course of that journey he encounters everything from love to loneliness and good to evil. He experiences a little bit of everything and learns deep lessons from each experience. Castle of Wisdom is far and away Rhett Ellis's most controversial book, but I think it's his best. I know most think the Wisdom of Shepherds is the truly great one, but I like this one better.
