Rating: 4
Summary: This Book is a Nice Thing to Have
Comment: This book is an excellent race relations and identity development primer for white people, particularly white people who haven't thought much about racism on an interpersonal or institutional level. It's very basic, helps white people take a self-inventory, and eases the reader through the preliminary steps of race awareness, race identity, and a recognition of the reality of racism in the U.S. and how white people can contribute to ending racism.

Rating: 5
Summary: profound without being intimidating
Comment: This is a great book. I was impressed with how much good information and insight is packed into this little book. The author makes a strong argument for the need for white people to recognize their privileged place in our society, and what this position means for their racial identity. The sections on stages of racial identity are particularly helpful in that they describe specific experiences and characteristics of people in each stage. The exercises offer ways to take the learning even deeper. This is a good read for people of any race. It is profound without being blaming or intimidating.
