Summary: A very simple primer on body language and dating.
Comment: This book does a lot to explain how to read others' nonverbal signals and how to appear self-confident in the dating scene, but the writing is not insightful and won't impress anyone who already knows basic body language clues.
Body Language Clues Are True But Simplified
These body language secrets might seem insipid to anyone who has experience reading body language. On the other hand, these hints are good for people who don't understand normal body language. This contrast results from the fact that the body language explanations are correct, but overly simplified. For example, Steele points out that a hand up to the mouth generally means that someone is either lying or doesn't believe what you're saying. Yeah, that's usually true, but there's a lot more complexity. A hand up to the mouth means that the person is trying to protect themselves in some way. Often this is because they are lying, but shy people will often do this even though they're being honest. That's why Steele says you need to rely on more than just one body signal to figure someone out. Obviously, these body language hints are simple but valuable to the newbie.
You'll Learn How to Appear Self-Confident (Not BE Self-Confident)
Steele's could have done a better job with the explanation that nice guys don't get dates. Most people know that guys that are called "nice" generally could also be called "shy or timid" and often lack self-esteem. Steele's advice is specific but callow as he tells the reader how to act like someone who has high self-esteem with a happy, interesting life. Not surprisingly, this is the type of guy that healthy women find attractive. This advice will work, but it's not a long-term substitute for actually having self-esteem with a fun, vibrant life.
With More Work From Steele, This Book Could Be a Classic
The writing itself is a little sloppy, with ads strewn throughout the pages. If you've ever read one of those junk emails with huge, vague promises, you get the idea. Steele is a gifted body language reader, and he could have put a lot more thought into this book and made it truly insightful. However, the ideas and information are definitely valuable for the newcomer to body language, so I give it a lukewarm 4 stars instead of an enthusiastic five stars.

Summary: Good book but found Roy Valentine to be more practical
Comment: This book was pretty good in regards to reading body language. Where I found it fell short was what to actually do beyond that.
I bought this and a few other titles (just became single) and found the System, how to get laid today by Roy Valentine to be the best on the topic. It goes into body language but also delivered a step by step approach to pick up girls. Plus it was pretty entertaining.
I think a combination of both books create a great solution.

Summary: The Best Book of It's Type Ever Written
Comment: Body Language Secrets by R. Don Steele is the best book of it's type ever written. It is unique because it makes the reader aware of body language (the reader's own or his intended's) as it applies to courtship specifically. Don is THE guru for all courtship matters. The book has many informative photos and examples. I have been interested in and read about body language and courtship for years, there is no better author than R. Don Steele. He also has many more definitive works, including How To Date Young Women, and Office Politics. If he wrote it, you can bet it is the best on the market. His work has changed my life forever for the better.
