Summary: photographs with intensely emotional prose poems
Comment: I wrote this book a number of years ago, and I'm still surprised at how my view of the world has not changed. What I once called "pornography" (that is, it has to do with the obscene & horrific abuse of humanity & nature in our world) I now call "apocalypse." I look at "Pornography" now as an early incarnation of my work in cultural studies and apocalyptic narratives. The narrator of "pornography" is no "mad messiah." However, she does attempt to "reveal" or "unveil" conditions as she sees them. What she actually does is reveal the condition of her despair. I wrote "pornography" during a very lonely and sad time in my life, when I was suffering from depression. There were days when I didn't want to leave the house. I observed the pain of others around me, and I empathized. Still, though, I felt powerless and completely paralyzed. Writing helped me feel emotions again, even if they were anger, outrage, sadness, and loss
