Comment: This is an amazing book. First, who can say anything bad about a book with a forward from Jhonen Vasquez? This is light reading and perfect before-bed reading. "The Bunny Came Back" is very "Pet Semetary"-ish, and all the other poems are wonderful as well. I can't even begin to pick a favorite. This is my first purchase by this author, but not my last. Bravo, Roman!

Summary: Timeless tales, silly portraits, all pretty tragic...
Comment: Roman Dirge puts out a memorable collection of childish poems accompanied with good artwork. The language rings well with the pictures that are drawn in a very Dirge-distinct style, all on a grand spooky scale. What comes to mind is Shel Silverstein meets Edward Gorey meets the Simpsons meets Lane Smith. I recommend this little book for anyone, any age, with a bent for creepy-cute stuff.

Summary: Your not Silverstein Mr. Dirge.
Comment: Roman Dirge has never impressed me as a writer or artist. I always try to keep the hope of evolving in my mind when I read any latest work of a writer, I think I am to keep on hoping for Mr. Dirge. Dirge has been a popular cult figure in the "dark comics" scene. This work is hardly a comic as it is more a short story book. Let me stress the short part of that statement. There is really nothing much here to read. The entire book can consume a good 5 to 10 minutes of your time. I found looking for the hidden pigs more entertaining then reading it. I also feel Roman Dirge tries to play himself off as a modern Shel Silverstein and hopefully the only person convinced he is good at it is himself and his mindless drone followers. While it has always been popular to attack subculture icons because it makes such easy criticism, I feel justified in my statements because this work lacks any artistic merit and it simply doesn't deliver for the price. Sorry Dirge maybe next time.
