Title: Choosing a Color Scheme by Editors of Creative Homeowner ISBN: 0-932944-98-1 Publisher: Creative Homeowner Press Pub. Date: 28 October, 1992 Format: Paperback Volumes: 1 List Price(USD): $10.95 |

Summary: Choose another book.
Comment: There are so many books on interior decoration it can be difficult to choose among them. This book makes it easy. Just say no.
Pluses:
None that I can see.
Minuses:
I do not think the photos in this book save it. I think that the photos are outdated, meaning, they have ugly decorating schemes by way of the 80s, and we are not talking cool retro here. For a book that is suppose to instruct you on color, they sure choose some horrible color combinations.
Recommendation: Don't bother wasting your time with this book.
Better Sources (in no particular order):
All these books have beautiful photos.
1) Think Color by Tricia Guild - good for inspiration. The book shows a very bold use of color.
2) Color Your Home Beautiful: Ideas and Solutions - has a variety of well-chosen color combinaions in a variety of styles, dozens of color swatches, useful tips, and quotes from designers.
3) Color in Your Home by Evelegh - mostly for those of you who like modern country and/or feminine (but not overdone) color schemes. Plus, one of the best primers on how to use color.
4) The Color Design File by Geddes-Brown - mostly for those of you who like Loft and/or Modern style. Covers the basics, but few useful written tips for design junkies. Very personal writing style.

Summary: Lovely photos
Comment: Lovely photos of beautifully decorated rooms with lovely colours. Not much information about how to achieve these looks with colour boards - no ideas about how to generate inspiration. Just a pretty book if that's what you want. It's a decent price so if you want pretty then this is what you'll get.

Summary: A great place to start..
Comment: So many of us paid no attention in art class to learning and understanding the color wheel, but then it goes much further than that. The book helps you choose your color scheme correctly and assist you in identifying your desire for the warm, cool, contrasting or harmonious color choices. Help and suggestions are provided for the use of textures and how to paint to make your room look wider, larger, higher or even smaller. Much more info is provided than listed. A great investment at a minimal cost.
