Summary: "The inscrutable" takes a day off.
Comment: An appetizing pocketbook of choice Dharma writings. The translated works are presented in their entirety. A couple of the pieces are better known by other names (e.g., "Faith in Mind", "Song of Enlightenment").
I compared Nearman's translations to others, and I found that Nearman really makes the prose "swing in English", without harming the meaning. Other translations are more choppy, trying for poetry-like imagery, but Nearman's style always seeks (or one might say "dares") a more fully explicit intellectual comprehension. Easier to read, easier to comprehend, and easier to remember.
Nice book cover and a convenient size for travel or end table. This book is a "keeper" for Dharma reflections among the Ch'an and Soto traditions.
