Summary: A New Book with a Track Record
Comment: Bernard (Bear) Kamoroff proves an author/publisher can make a living on one book. Through 24 revised editions and 54 printings in 22 years, this very successful guide has to be the best-selling accounting book of all time. Continually updated, it just keeps on getting better and better.
Kamoroff takes you through Getting Started (business location, financing, legal structure, licenses & permits, import & export, insurance, business name and business plan), Bookkeeping (bank accounts, recording income, sales & expenditures and financial management), Business Growth (hiring help, incorporation), Taxes (expenses, self-employment tax, retirement deductions, the IRS, returns, other taxes), and in the Appendix (how to find a good accountant, home-based businesses, buying & selling a business, freelancers and more).
This book has a great title and it was the title that made people pick it up to discover the great content.
I have been a publisher for 31 years and I wish this book had been written 32 years ago. Fortunately, it has been with me for 22. [email protected].

Summary: Good for the traditional small business owner
Comment: A very readable and practical book. Oriented toward the traditional small business and full of good advice. Minor criticisms are that it is less suited to the professional service providor (although there are some good comments on LLCs) and better read than referenced.
Rating: 4
Summary: Simple, but essential!
Comment: I've just finished this book, and learned a great deal. I've had a sideline business for several years, which is starting to become more of the main focus, and this book "fits" just fine. If you're looking for a particular tax strategy or some other highly detailed info, this is probably not the one for you. If you're thinking about running a business for the first time (or like me, have already started but have a lot of learning to do), then this is the one. The book is up to date, with coverage about the internet as well, but the main thing is that this book walks you, step by step, through the basic essentials to successfullly start and run a business.
