Summary: Bandler at his best
Comment: As an NLP trainer, I think I have read most of the books out there, including most of Bandler and Grinder have written. The first books are dry but informative, then come the gems like "Transformation", and "Reframing", and those are a challenge unless you already know some NLP.
This book is wonderful. It is an easy read, Bandler is spot on with his insights, and he give plenty of practical applications. I read this book many years ago and enjoyed it. I just reread it and was delighted in all the information this book packs between its cover. You will want this book on your shelf if this type of information interests you and maybe even if you don't!

Summary: It takes a brain to use a brain
Comment: And that's exactly the point of this book. At times, much like beating a dead horse, Bandler states the obvious over and over (and over) again, but oddly enough, it's not boring at all. Kind of like a favorite uncle who tells you the same war story each time you see him, but with a slightly different spin, so you sit there en"tranced" and become a willing subject to his yarn. This in no way diminishes the value of this book. Anyone who has ever read Bandler knows that he is a master of communication. What he teaches is .. so are you. You just don't realize it yet!

Summary: Overated
Comment: I didn't find this book or NLP to be worth all the excitement it receives. Some of the exercises, I found hard to do: like imagining I am in the control booth of a theater, watching myself watch myself on the screen; or running a movie of my memory backwards. Since these two techniques seem to be the basis of his approach I was less than satisfied with the material. Other techniques he offers are making a memory larger, or brighter, faster, or clearer, or just the opposite: smaller, dimmer, slower, or fuzzy. I found this all to be somewhat difficult to do and not really about changing how I think about something. For instance, if I have a bad memory that I want to stop from harming me today, it isn't so much the memory that bothers me but how I think about it. So changing the way I remember it be it faster or slower or dimmer or brighter, isn't the same thing as changing how I think about it or the fact that I continue to think about it at all, if I'd rather not. Ovearll, this book did not offer anything extraordinary in my opinion. It did however from time to time offer a few interesting insights into how we think: for instance, we remember the very things we want to forget, and forget the very things we want to remember. This, and other little tidbits were interesting food for thought, ....
