Summary: Conservatism with a vengence!
Comment: The Stuckists, like most modernist movements with dramatic credos, have failed to produce paintings that are of any interest or beauty. Their mantra of anti anti-art is really conservatism cloaked in a grassrootsy, hippie way. Reactionary, spiritualist art is not the art of the future. Katherine Evans' book is a good view on this obscure movement although the author seems a little too persuaded by the movement's mantra. If the Stuckists took some time to examine modern and contemporary art they would find a great deal to be rewarded by. Simplicity, beauty and spirituality are as much a part of contemporary art as they even were. And unfortunately for the Stuckists, the current vogue of 'outsider art' has already indulged most of the art world's aesthetic interest in naive, hippy and recluse art. I imagine that this book will fade along with the Stuckist movement - perhaps the author could take her talent elsewhere.

Comment: Stuckism is a pro-painting art movement that promotes art that strives to connect directly and emotionally, rather than not at all, in other words in other words they are anti-anti art. They are opposed to conceptual art, installation art, video art, performance art, ready-made art and other forms of pretentious, meaningless art. This will be the art movement that becomes the defining one of the 21st century. Katherine Evans' book is a great overview of it.
