Summary: Wonderful Series
Comment: We purchased this series to help my oldest learn to read. His Kindergarten teacher had told us he would never learn to read. The books are simply written and maintain the same plot line through all the books. The main character is always "Little (letter of the book." Each character has a box and decides to fill it with items that start with that letter. My oldest (now 8) reads on the 6th grade level with full comprehension. These books have done wonders in our house. I'm sorry to find that this series is now so hard to come by. I will definately hold on to these for my other children and then for their children.

Summary: Great for Learning to Read
Comment: This book is part of an excellent series by Jane Belk Moncure that is really useful for teaching children to read. We are currently going through this with a 4-and-a-half year old and a three year old. There is only one series that is better, which is the Peter and Jane series "Key Words Reading Scheme." Why is it that I have to hunt around 2nd hand bookstores to find the best two series for teaching children to read?

Summary: Very irresponsible writing, my child's copy is in the trash.
Comment: This book starting from page 18 to 22 illustrates to children a behavior that is rewarded, but is rather every parents worst nightmare.
pg.18 -- (picture of a candy castle clown)
"found a candy castle"
pg.19 -- (picture of clown and another of little "c" who is small girl with the letter "c" on her shirt and the main character in the book)
"A clown said, 'Will you come in?"
pg.20 -- "Little (c) said, 'Yes." "Guess what?" said the clown.
pg.21 -- "I have candy canes, cookies, and a cake with candles on it.
pg.22 -- "It is my birthday. Come to my party." "Little (c) took off her coat and cap"
further pages depict a small innocent party.
What is next from this author? A clown driving up to another child asking for help finding a lost puppy? I don't wish to find out.
