Summary: A Relational Challenge for Effective Ministry
Comment: According to the Master, the kingdom would be founded on relationships, not dogma, buildings, positions or titles and the church is not there yet. How can ministry become more effective in the local church and like its founder had in mind when Jesus said the world would know that we are his disciples by the way we love one another?
An excellent paperback which details the process was written by Roberta Hestenes in 1991 entitled, Turning Committees into Communities. Hestenes has simplified and clarified the relational aspects of the Kingdom in accomplishing mission within and without the local congregation.
Much of the ineffectiveness of committees can be transformed by Hestenes' thoughts. She has provided several keys for moving ministry from a positional priority to a synergistic win/win outcome. She maximizes the gifts for ministries between individuals by organizing the ministries by the way we complement each other. No longer are decisions from the top down, but rather from within the dynamic give-and-take of brothers and sisters who love the Lord and one another beyond the specific tasks.
The challenge for this book is similar to scripture: how to enflesh the ministry of Jesus Christ with his love bonding us to him and one another more than the job at hand.
